Why 2017 Is “The” Year To Hire A Coach
There’s an old proverb that says “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll probably end up anywhere.”
Are you constantly saying you’re going to achieve something, but cannot hold yourself accountable? I know, you’re thinking “I can hold myself accountable!” Well, for whatever that’s worth, statistics show that an individual will only go as far as he/she can take themselves. This means, that although you may be able to be responsible and achieve things most people are not, you can only support yourself at the level of knowledge “you” are capable of at that given time. You don’t know what you don’t know, so you can never discover the unknown, because you’re not aware it exists.
Consider, what you would be able to achieve if you were guided? What if, someone could reveal undisclosed facts of opportunities or benefits that are available, and evidence to supports its existence? It would be like entering the Garden of Eden, or the land of milk and honey! My point is it’s difficult to overcome the struggle of recognizing limitations if you are searching within yourself for answers you don’t know exist. Coaches help identify challenges, provide options for overcoming obstacles, and support your efforts of focusing on achievement.
A good coach will:
- Guide you towards an environment of stability
- Help build your confidence, become intentional, and have direction
- Help develop your creativity, guide you through building of structure, and personal development
- Help create a clearing space through planning, and implementation
- Encourage more action of the client, that one cannot achieve on their own
Distinguished professionals understand the importance of having a coach. By using the analogy of a football team, we see how a coach trains players to increase performance through strategic techniques. He provides tools and practices to help build their confidence, and understand their rolls and positions. By watching previous plays, team members can envision using the same plays in their mind, over and over again. A strategic formula begins to illuminate within their minds. They begin to see themselves achieving that particular play by being the champion on the field. Their courage comes out from hiding, and strategies no longer seem difficult. They understand it’s time to add action to the vision.
Feeling assured of their awakened ability, the player anxiously waits for his coach to say “now.” When it comes time for implementation, he has become so in tune with the unexpected that he’s able to know what moves to take without questioning himself. He’s played the position in his mind over and over again until it becomes a natural flow.
Notice, what’s he was able to achieve, may not have been as strategic if he were following his own lead. But, because his couch guided him with the tool of video and instructions, he was equipped to perform that particular play. His awareness, confidence, and ability to get out of his own way were the outcome of his willingness to be coached. Now, he’s building his own brand, and creating a demand for his talent, which will result in a higher pay.

In some cases, an employer may pay for the services, because he understands the assumed return of investment. If not, consider making the investment in yourself.
